BVDM to Provide Digital Services for PBS’ New Year 2011 Broadcast

Broadway Video Digital Media to Provide HDTV Services for PBS/WNET New Year’s Day Broadcast of “Great Performances”

New York, NY, December 30, 2010 – Having collaborated extensively in prior years with PBS/WNET on the annual, worldwide broadcast of “Great Performances ‘From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration,’” Broadway Video Digital Media announced that they will be providing services for this year’s event as well. The broadcast, which reaches 72 countries, is the largest world-wide classical music event, and it is enjoyed by over a billion people.

Since its first television broadcast in 1959, “From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration” has featured the Vienna Philharmonic and a rousing selection of music that highlights some of Austria’s most famous and beloved composers. Lovely works like the Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss II and the Spanish March by Johann Strauss Sr. will be framed and presented by the TV host for the evening, seven time Emmy Award winner, Paula Zahn. The Vienna Philharmonic will be under the baton of conductor Franz Welser-Möst, a giant in the field of classical music with credits that span major cities around the globe.

BVDM will provide a full range of digital services to facilitate the broadcast, including receiving the HDTV live feed from Vienna, and live-loading of the material for same day editing of the U.S. Great Performances show. Mark Yates, BVDM’s President, expressed excitement about working on the 2011 event saying, “It’s challenging and exciting to provide the complex suite of services that WNET requires to bring Great Performances’ New Year’s Day broadcast to a world-wide audience. We are a one-stop digital services facility, and collaborating with WNET’s expert team makes it easier for us to deliver the exact technical configuration needed for the event.”

“From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration 2011? will air locally on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 8 p.m. on Thirteen/WNET. Check your local listings for additional viewing times in your area.
